What will I be able to do?

A learner achieving this unit standard will be able to harvest crops according to basic procedures making use of basic harvesting tools. Learners will gain specific knowledge and skills in harvesting techniques and will be able to operate in a plant production environment implementing sustainable and economically viable production principles. They will be capacitated to gain access to the mainstream agricultural sector, in plant production, impacting directly on the sustainability of the sub-sector. The improvement in production technology wil also have a direct impact on the improvement of agricultural productivity of the sector.

Learning Outcomes:

Session 1: Select and use appropriate tools / equipment for pre-determined harvesting method

Session 2: Carry out sampling for maturity indexing according to established and familiar procedures.

Session 3: Harvest crops.

Session 4: Harvest crops considering the necessary health, hygiene and safety during the procedure.

Session 5 : Ensure the collection and transportation of waste.

What do I need to know?

It is assumed that the learner should show competence in NQF 1: Harvest agricultural crops.

• NQF 2: Utilise and perform minor repair and maintenance tasks on implements, equipment and

infrastructure.

 NQF 1: Collect agricultural data.
